BigSkyFreedom is one Vancouver community of free-association following the non-violent, pacifist tradition of AnarchoBuddhism. It is a community whose spiritual practice commits them to a historical, political context within the Greater Vancouver area.
BigSkyFreedom can mean, in images and figures, those who choose to play, walk, dance in the freedom of the sky-like expanse of the open mind and good heart.
The symbolism of the BigSkyFreedom flag:
The black & white STAR: to INSPIRE – the white being inner and outer peace, the black being freedom – liberty.
The white LOTUS: to AWAKEN – a symbol of our awakening, perfect nature – the one being developed by our mindful, compassionate actions.
The BLUE SKY: to REVEAL – the ultimate nature of reality of which we are a manifestation and into which our practice takes us – like a clear morning sky – BigMind - primordial purity, enlightenment, luminous clarity – Love - suchness – the divine – whatever you want to call it, as it overflows all definition.
Anarcho-Pacifist [& Christian/Buddhist] black & white flag
The black colour represents freedom – liberty - the negation of all oppressive structures. The white colour represents peace and non-violence. Both together express a negative and positive freedom: freedom 'from' coercive, violent control and freedom 'for' peace, presence, love.
